There are many studies that assert that having more sex and more frequent orgasms can increase male life expectancy by as much as 8 years and decrease the risk of death by heart attack and stroke by up to 50 percent, especially if the deed is done 3 times a week or more.
This could be because sex is a great form of cardiovascular exercise. It improves the circulation, increases the heart rate and encourages deep breathing, all of which improve the removal of waste products from the blood, which if left to circulate around your body, can cause illness.
Sex can also help you stay slim because it burns as many, if not more, calories in 30 minutes than yoga, walking, weight training or volleyball. On average, half an hour of sex burns about 150 calories, so making love just three times a week could burn as many calories in one year as would be consumed if you jogged 75 miles! Unless you are a real jogging enthusiast, the former sounds much more fun than the latter.
But you don’t have to ‘go all the way’ to enjoy the calorie-burning benefits of intimacy, it turns out that just kissing your partner passionately i.e. using your tongue muscle, can not only burn a couple of calories a minute but also help tone up your facial muscles, so why not add ‘making out’ to your daily face lift workout routine.
But don’t go thinking you can veg out on the sofa, drinking beer, eating a potato chip, watching the game and then undo all that damage with a quick roll in the hay. Whilst numerous research studies have shown that good sex can promote longevity and good health and help you look younger, your ‘sexercise’ routine should be combined with a more conventional form of exercise.
Improved Memory
Taking supplements of ginkgo biloba helps to promote healthy circulation and a better memory. Well, it turns out that sex can also keep your gray matter in top condition. Studies have shown that when you have sex, the brain’s activity increases and chemicals are produced that help your brain grow new filaments that allow your brain cells to communicate with each other more easily. The more of these connections you have, the easier it is to learn new things and remember what you have learned.
Lower Risk of Cancer
A study of 29,000 men conducted in 2004 concluded that men who ejaculated 21 times or more a month were less likely to develop prostate cancer than those who ejaculated less frequently. This is because excess fluid build up can lead to enlargement of the prostate gland.
Professor Stephen N Rouse, MID., author of The Prostate Book put it like this: “If a man is ejaculating on a fairly regular basis of one, two, three or more times weekly and then, for whatever reason, his frequency of orgasm and ejaculation decreases sharply, it is likely that the prostate gland will become overly full of fluid.”
Eases Arthritis
Levels of testosterone in your body are raised during sex, which helps to reduce inflammation of the joints. This is because testosterone is a corticosteroid – a natural anti-inflammatory agent that can reduce the pain of arthritis up to 6 hours after sex.
Builds Muscle
But that’s not all testosterone can do to help keep your body in good condition. The testosterone released during sex and orgasm helps build bone and also lean muscle tissue. Muscular contractions during sex work the pelvis, thighs, buttocks, arms, neck and thorax.
The more vigorous and adventurous the sex, the more muscles get worked out and the stronger they become.
Sex Prevents Alzheimer’s Disease
A reduction in production of testosterone is considered a normal result of ageing in men, and it has been shown that lower levels of this hormone increases the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.
Frequent sex (eight times a week or more) appears to raise testosterone levels and this, in turn, helps to maintain the normal cell structure of the penis. If testosterone levels fall you don’t get as many erections and this can lead penile tissue to lose its elasticity which, in turn, can make the penis appear smaller.
In a study of 989 men aged 55 to 75 years in Finland, men who had intercourse less than once per week had twice the incidence of erectile dysfunction as those having sex two or more times a week. Trouble is, a reduction in libido is often associated with ageing, therefore, no matter how convinced you are that sex will help you live longer, if you cannot ‘perform’ due to lack of desire or erectile dysfunction, all this advice is for nothing.
